Are we JUDGING others…and ourselves?

Since the world, your city and your community started to reopen, what have you noticed? Plan “Re-Open Saskatchewan” started here on May 4, 2020. Since then, we have slowly, carefully and thoughtfully opened up aspects of our economy starting with certain medical services and outside activities to today…where malls and personal services are now open! It is so great to see businesses reopen and things moving again!

This brings with it a whole variety of opinions on what we SHOULD be doing. The government has done a tremendous job of providing guidelines but sometimes not all the details are clear or agreed upon by everyone. So, when some people think extra precautions should still be taken and some think the rules have some room for discretion or interpretation, the spectrum of what people are ACTUALLY doing is quite wide…like who wears a mask, where and when, or who should? Where does our circle of socialization begin and end, if we are working and have a big family? What about the kids and their friends? Where can I safely travel to, even just here in our own province?

This is where common sense might be applicable…but we know that common sense isn’t always common to EVERYONE in the SAME way! Our experiences have shaped how we think, feel and react - differently than our neighbors, our co-workers or friends, so sometimes it happens that we default to judgement. Judgement is what happens sometimes when we are unsure or uncertain, have anxiety or fear, we are fatigued or exhausted, stuck or feeling hopeless.

The same is true for our HEALTH, especially now…when we have made our career or our families (or both!) a priority, or we have been living in a pandemic; all of these things above can cause us to struggle with our health! We might judge ourselves and our body for just sucking…at everything! You might feel unsure or uncertain about what to eat or how to be successful with a particular diet; maybe you have anxiety or fear and never feel relaxed; you may feel fatigue or exhaustion and can’t get moving; or you feel so stuck or hopeless that you can’t recognize or feel grateful for the health blessings that you DO have?

Here are 5 things you can do to help SHIFT AWAY FROM SELF-JUDGEMENT and start to focus on your health goals:

  1. Curiosity – Listen to your inner voice, your gut.

Ask Yourself: What do I REALLY want for my health? Then journal that thought.

  2. Openness – If you want something different, you have to do something different.

Ask Yourself: Am I open to trying something new? Journal how.

  3. Patience – You don’t have to have it all figured out to get started.

Ask yourself: What one thing can I commit to that would make a difference in my health? Jot that down in your journal.

  4. Gratitude – Think of the things you have already done in your life or for your health.

Ask yourself: What am I most proud of? Journal that too.

  5. Action – The most effective way to do it, is to do it! (Amelia Earhart)

Ask yourself: What action am I willing to take in the next 7 days to improve my health? A powerful journal entry.

Right, great! Lots of great journal entries…but what happens next and how do you actually do this? HERE IS THE GOOD NEWS! You don’t have to take the next step to figure it all out by yourself…let’s Get In Touch! We can work together to step out of self-judgement and reach for your health dreams!!!
